The 2011 Letters in the Year 2011 Project

My dearest readers,
Yesterday I was contacted by a mother who had decided to do a project called 2011 Letters in the Year 2011 Project.  This is a very ambitious project and she was hoping for a little help from the mailer community!
Her goal was to show her 3 home schooled daughters, ages 12 to 16, the world that's out there.  I wrote her back and asked what she hoped to get out of the project.
She responded:
"We're really looking for letters that tell us about yourself...whatever you feel free to share... hobbies,career,dreams,advice,etc.  We'd also love to know about the area you live in.  As a plus,we'd love things such as postcards,pictures of maybe your area,library or any place you love,tickets from museums, subways, movies, etc.  We'd also love art,doodles....maybe if you like writing poetry or short stories...you could maybe share those. The possibilities are endless and that's what makes it so fun since we never know what we are going to get.  We want to feel like you're a friend and visiting you...not just a paper with facts listed in bullet point, although that would be great too, but we want something more personal...something more than what we'd get from a textbook."

So far, they prefer folks ask for their address directly through the blog and blog's email (reneealam@verizon.net). But that may change as the project continues!
I hope those of you willing to write and spread the word among the letter writers.  They are going to need all the help they can get to accomplish such a lofty goal.

Hand Made cards I found at a Resale Shop.  The flowers are actually thread and the stems hand drawn.  The paper was yellowing, so who knows how old they are.



Interesting USPS Article

Hello all,
I was on my way to check my email when this popped up.  It was an article about 15 things your post carrier won't tell you.  Some were common courtesy, others I knew from experience, but there was some interesting things on there.
And because every post should have a beautiful picture.

Here are some beautiful art deco inspired cards my friend got me at a festival in NY.  They are the quintessential type of cards I love best!  Screen printed in small batches by people who just want to make great stationery.  I have yet to part with any from the set, just can't let them go out into the world yet!

Stick Figures in Movies

Hello All!
I had a previous post about stick figure stationery I bought.  The theme was stick figures in literature and several folks liked them.  Well the other day I was at a Barnes and Noble and despite my best efforts, I got near the stationery section(sigh).  However, I did resisted the cutest cards of Andy Warhol's Campbell Soup Cans, but the Stick Figures, alas, came home with me.  
Can you guess all the movies?

Being a big movie fan, it took me no time to figure them out.  I think the hardest one is the man running from the airplane, but since I especially sought this movie out to buy it, I knew it right away!  I'll give you a hint . . . Archibold Lee.  Just let me know if you get stuck!

Stamps are Forever

Have you all seen the new stamps?  They are gorgeous!  And they are forever's.  I am going back for more this weekend to stock up on the Chinese New Year stamps.  Those who know me well, know I have a thing for rabbits.   It's nice they are forever's but at the same time I feel kind of sad because looking at the postage added value (literally) to the stamp.  It gave them a reference frame for when they were issued.  We'll no longer be as likely to say "when I was in grade school, stamps were 25 cents" 
Sigh, another thing I thought would never change, has.  At least they are beautiful!

I also thought you might all enioy seeing what my dog thinks of the recent weather!

He did not want to get out of bed for anything!

My Mail Experimentation: SendSomething.com

Last weekend I decided to do a little mail experimentation.  I have fun using my piles and piles of stationery and I am a bit random.  SO I decided to sign up for sendsomething.com.  This is a site where you can go on and get addresses to randomly mail people.  They write their likes and dislikes and addresses.  It's not very private and unlike postcrossing, you are not limited to how many you can send to.  I'm not sure of the equiette of the site either, as to whether you have to send to the randomly generated address like postcrossing or not, (hopefully somebody will stop along and inform us).
But I have already recieved a piece of mail from the site.

I figure I'll give it a month, then I'll assess my mail experiment and see how I feel about it.  I'll keep you all posted.
Things I don't love about it right now are the lack of knowing if the addresses are current and it is not very private at all.   Not that my P.O. Box address is any mystery as it's posted to this site, but it's still a pretty open site, so precautions are warranted if you want to try it too.
Please feed the mailboxes!
